Chalk Paint

After 38 years in one place we moved in to a brand new apartment with soft colors and modern design.
Instead of buying new furniture I painted odd pieces of furniture for the bedroom to give a more modern look.
The bed we bought new as it had large storage drawers and it was American made. I used Annie Sloan Coco as my first coat with a top coat of Old Ochre after I had washed the furniture with TSP.  You can also just wash with soapy water and there is no need to sand down. This top coat was “wiped” while wet with a lint free cloth to produce a grey driftwood effect. One dresser I  made more Coco to blend in with the bed and I also gave it a “distressed” look. Other small pieces were different combinations of the two colors.  The chair was painted in Old Ochre and detail highlighted in Coco. The seat was covered in curtain fabric and gets changed along with the changing seasons. After drying, the pieces were given two coats of Annie Sloan clear wax. There are lots of videos on Youtube to watch for more info. I still have paint left as it covers very well.
A note about the old bookcase I used for storing my glass ware as there was a lack of cupboard space.
I did not paint the inside as everything light would have reflected through the linen curtain I made. I used a pair of curtains from Marshalls which cost $20 and I only needed to cut and make the top where I ran a tension rod through – an easy hack.
