Quotes, doodles and The Arts. It is surprising what you learn from a yearbook – a favorite quote, a favorite singer, a sketch and all sorts of stories and thanks. I quoted Eve in my last post and now I added one of mine from the same author. During this time as the children were older I had more opportunities to go to recitals as well as plays and and other performances. I love the quote on my intro post from R.L. Stevenson which ends, “not simply to convince but to enchant.” enchant  verb – to fill with delight  synonyms: captivate, charm, delight, enrapture, entrance, fascinate, rivet, grip. transfix. “Enchant” is a wonderful scarcely used word. The word summed up my feelings while watching and participating in so many facets of the Arts at Walnut Hill. I have a small scrap of paper that I have kept for many years that says “In a cold world you need your friends to keep you warm.” This is true both literally and figuratively, especially in New England. I was fascinated by Libby’s ever so precise drawings and when she left New Cottage she left her blotter with multiple drawings all over it. I did not throw it all out but cut out a small still life. Little did I know back then that this was a drawing that she had on her senior page and also this quote from Bob Dylan “Someday everything’s gonna be different. When I paint my masterpiece.”  I am glad that I have one of her masterpieces which hangs in my “office” and that I have memories of the students in New Cottage.
