Our last year at WHS and it was a busy year of activities but also packing and throwing out. The year started off well with the leadership making new students feel welcome. Fire-pit with Smores and community building evenings were also good fun. The students looked great for Class Night and Zamo and Layla chose yellow. New signage for the school with a little more traditional look. We asked if we could keep the old sign to hang on the fence in our townhouse. Jonas and Owen helped out at Thanksgiving dinner and Layla and Szamo were obviously excited with the Window Painting. We won first prize. Gloria was the subject for the dorm flag and kept a check on the painting. Our students were waiting in Keiter for their time to perform. Jordan and Fair were wearing great foot wear. Oops! Jayna had none. Layla had a beautiful voice and sang “Gloria in excelsis Deo” or you can just call it Gloria. Everyone took part and rehearsed avidly with Katherine and Wendy playing cello Nancy on percussion and Hannah playing the piano. Glorious! Elfies always a treat. I still have the lovely porcelain vase she made as an Elfie present. A first snow day as the students arrived back from winter break and a nice get together making Valentines. Baking cookies at Rubys, a craft night at Margaret’s and Lunar New Year at The Reids. There was always something for everyone. The Easter bunny was in Scotland celebrating her birthday with her eldest son and two older grandchildren. This Easter Egg Hunt was a tradition that went back many years – even before Jordan Cassel was born. Yes, Hannah could clean her room. Fair celebrates her birthday with sparkling apple juice in a champagne glass. Always elegant with beautiful clothes and makeup. I loved Fairs senior project about the whales. Wendy loved Gloria and Gloria loved visitors. Memories – Many friendships were made. Zamo, Jordan and Layla were always together – chatting and drinking tea together. A great team of dorm parents to have the honor to work with in New Cottage. Attending the new group “The Followers” with Linda Hughes and Jayna L. I remember reading a book that Alex recommended and I will never look at dolls houses – especially the floors – in the same way again. I invited six of our friends – all musicians – to come to Layla’s senior recital and they were amazed at her performance. We were honored to be recognized in May along with Mr Durning and Mrs Buschenfeldt. I loved having teas and gatherings in the townhouse but was very sad at our last tea. When our six Chinese students came over to say goodbye I asked them to stand by the old sign. Wonderful times of chats and teas. We had the pleasure to go back to see all of their senior recitals in 2019. I remembered the rainbow at the beginning of the year with its promise and I think of Gloria and all she reminded me of in this my last year.
