We welcomed Man Wen, Rachel, Chelsea, Alex, Rita, Becca, Yuki, Morgan, Vicky, Ta and Rebecca to New Cottage after 16 years of boys. Much different sounds were heard this year and more cooking and perfume spraying were evident. The rooms also looked different and the first time in many years there were “accent” pillows. A few artists designed our window this year and many hands helped to create our painting of a Christmas tree adorned with the girls of New Cottage. We won 2nd place!! Things I remember were – the “show” the girls put on for us after the Holiday dinner – sharing by Ta and caring by Chelsea – Man Wen and Becca’s hand made Elfie gifts – more details can be read by linking to “What is Christmas.” Lindsey was a great help in decorating the eggs for our New Cottage Easter Egg Hunt. The students put on a great wedding shower for Lindsey and Mike and some made gifts and cards. Alex made two of her dolls – a bride and groom. We enjoyed toasting them with sparkling apple cider in our champagne glasses. The dorm bought them 12 silver napkin holders from Crate and Barrel and Mr Reid gave Mike a can opener as Lindsey did not cook. I hear that she is an excellent cook now – 13 years later and blessed with three children – two boys and a girl. Lots of laughter, parties and crafts – I still have the Walnut Mouse that Ta made. Still remember Rachel and her brother. Alex had a great senior art show – I loved her poster and dolls – and that year we made a dorm CD to give to everyone. The digital age was here. Prom was much different this year and instead of last minute requests to tie a tie or sew on a button or iron a shirt the prom dresses were chosen well in advance. Then of course the face masks – do not smile! On Prom night it was raining and dark clouds hung over Highland Dorm – then the sun came out and all was well – nice ending to a very different year.
