Adam N., Amanda B., and Ruby W., were all children of WHS who graduated in 2005. Much later Amanda would return to be a dorm parent in North House and Ruby would return 10 years later and work with us in New Cottage until we retired in 2018. Past and present NC students who were also graduating – Wong Ki, Noah, Brandon, Jeong, and Joon Won. There were eight students who would potentially return. I always loved seeing the students dressed for prom – even the boys. Halloween was fun this year. I dressed as Brunhilde and Edward dressed as Marilyn. I had a chance to sit in Brandon’s car after graduation. He told me the story!! I really enjoyed receiving a hand made ceramic frog after graduation from one of our students and it actually matched my dress. Some great conversations this year with Brandon and Wong Ki about their views on politics and religion. Nice that they felt safe to discuss their views. Baxter enjoyed the snow and the students enjoyed the snow days. Baxter looked as if he had cotton balls on his legs one day that he ran upstairs to sniff around our kitchen. All the students loved him. Mrs. Cassel can be seen below swimming at the leadership retreat. She always had fun and we all remember her “Good morning” as she greeted the students at Assembly. Still enjoying the hydrangea tree and the flowers that I would plant each year. Now to what the boys did for me. They bought me a new ring. In Nov all my rings and gold jewelry were stolen including my grandmothers engagement ring and my diamond cluster engagement ring which was set in gold and platinum with little diamonds on the side. I described the jewelry and rings to the students. They took a collection and bought me a ring and gave it to me for Christmas. I learnt two lessons this year. The first was what I always told the students – to always lock the door even if I am out for a short while and the second was to never underestimate the kindness of others.
