Another good year in New Cottage getting together for meals and celebrations of birthdays and holidays. Dan took part in the leadership retreat and was such a great sport. He and Melissa Cassel made a good team as seen in the photo below. Several of our students were graduating and we were sad to see Drew leave who had been in New Cottage for three years. A writer, and his quote in his yearbook was from Coen Brothers, “Barton Fink” I looked up the movie – amazing what I am learning while writing this. I received a letter from him in 2008 and will always cherish it. David also returned along with Jesse and Pat. Bryan was a theater major and he and Glenn travelled to Scotland to perform with the school at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. My father – who lived in Carnoustie in Scotland – traveled about 60 miles by train and went to see the show. At the end of the show he asked to go back stage and asked for Bryan. He said “Do you know a Mrs Heather Reid at your school?” He said “Yes she is my dorm parent.” to which my father said, “Well she is also my daughter.” Bryan was very surprised and also quite touched that he came all that way to see the show. Pat graduated this year and he took great pleasure in sending us a “family picture” of them all celebrating. Funnily the image I have of Pat was in the dorm video eating Ramen noodles and they were falling out of his mouth. That was the time that I said “Yes this is definitely a boys dorm!” Several other theater majors Hank and Zac. Hank was the deep thinker and Zac had many hairstyles. Kee, Matthew and David were our musicians and Adam S. may also have been with us. Glenn also graduated and I always remember him towering above me but that did not take much. Glenn was always so helpful and I really liked his quote in his senior page – see below – and also the Scripture quote from Ecclesiastes that his parents submitted in a message for the yearbook. “Rejoice, young man while you are young, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Follow the inclination of your heart and the desire of your eyes…” Our students were certainly given that gift from their parents to follow their heart.
This was the year I remember the Theater Dept. going to Scotland and Mrs Cassel joining ”the team.”
