Larry gets another room and a toilet! Remember the throne? At this point Larry did some renovations for privacy and the construction stayed until at least 2018 when we retired. The microwave replaced the stove in the kitchen and this allowed for the dorm dryer to be moved from our basement to the New Cottage kitchen. The students still used the pay phone as their communication to the outside world and only at certain times – can you imagine that today? The student Facebook was a few sheets of paper full of student pictures – how things have changed.
Things that I remember – William K. having an accident with the soda machine! Fond memories of Randy A. and the power cut. Also going to see Randy play his classical guitar. The first time I think most of the school had heard a classical guitarist. After Randy stopped playing the audience was silent for a few seconds – spell bound – before erupting into a loud applause. Many years later I contacted him to help with a fundraiser which you will hear about much later. Alec D. shaving his hair. One of the funniest stories is that this year – a much slimmer Mrs Reid – went to the Halloween dance dressed as Elvira. It was quite dark and one of our students was following me and making comments which I was walking away from. When he persisted and before he got in too deep I said,  “You know —— this is no way to talk to your dorm parent, please stop otherwise I will dorm you.” He spun around to his peers and said OMG I was chatting up MRS REID!!!!!!!” We laughed later. I had a ceramic bowl that Bill P. made and gave to me which I enjoyed until it was knocked over by my very active children. I treasured it for many years. Two last things to remember. The year that they showed high school pictures of the staff – do you recognize this lovely lady below – her initials are A M. I also would keep notes and cards from students and came across this little note and envelope used to return a student’s key, nice. Some of our students graduated this year. Seth, Mike and Alec. Former students graduating were Alberto P., Josh M., Oscar S., Ellen C., and Jamie G.
